Giving Back

Humanitarian Efforts

The Biotronic NeuroNetwork (BNN) and staff believe that it is extremely important to help those with limited (or no) access to medical care, to receive the treatment that they need. With this view in mind, we have chosen to partner with several organizations that are making a significant difference in the lives of patients with spinal deformities.

BNN and staff provide financial assistance and intraoperative neuromonitoring services to these organizations, aiding them in providing critical medical services at little or no cost to the patient. Our efforts have impacted patients in Ghana, Barbados, Columbia, Jamaica, the Philippines, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Bulgaria, Dominican Republic and many other countries throughout the underdeveloped world.

Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine

FOCOS, founded by Dr. Boachie-Adjei, is an organization dedicated to helping the disabled and fostering international cooperation among orthopedic specialists. Dr. H.B. Calder, the company’s founder, is an active board member of FOCOS’s Michigan chapter, Detroit Orthofocos. Additionally, BNN sends several neuromonitoring technologists and other resources, twice a year, to Ghana to provide neuroprotection services to patients as FOCOS undertakes 25 to 50 surgical procedures each trip. Since 2000, FOCOS and BNN have partnered together to help hundreds of patients, throughout Africa, with major spinal deformities. BNN technologists also accompany FOCOS physicians to other areas of the world, such as Barbados, several times per year to provide similar services and resources.

Scoliosis Research Society – Global Outreach

SRS Mission Statement – The Scoliosis Research Society Global Outreach Program (SRS GOP) provides care to pediatric and adult patients in under-served regions of the world with any disorder that affects the shape, alignment, and function of the spine. We foster the development of regional, self-sufficient spine centers staffed by local physicians capable of providing continuing care to patients with spinal deformities.

SRS Mission Strategy – Our mission will be facilitated through the development of SRS GOP Centers. The educational programs provided through these centers will employ practical, didactic and “hands-on” techniques to train local spinal surgeons and medical colleagues to provide non-operative and operative care for patients with spinal pathology.

Illinois Bone and Joint Institute

Biotronic is also a supporter of the Scoliosis Research Society and the Illinois Bone & Joint Institute, which conduct programs similar to FOCOS in India, Thailand, and Nepal. In addition to financial support, Biotronic provides neural monitoring and other critical medical services to these organizations as well.

Duncan Tree Foundation

Founded by Ms. Ouida Duncan, The Duncan Tree Foundation is an International outreach program founded to help educate people about reducing risks associated with noncommunicable diseases. They look to recruit medical professionals from around the globe to increase medical knowledge in developing countries, and secure medical equipment donations to help improve quality of life. DTF works to promote all aspects of wellness: physical, mental, financial, and spiritual. Through Community outreach programs, health expos, seminars, and neighborhood events, they offer free screening, consultations, and assessments, as well as educational materials to help those in need- and without health insurance- to better understand their health and get adequate medical care.

Through our support and participation with these organizations, we have been able to make a significant impact in the lives of hundreds of patients.
